Seeking Volunteers for 2022 Chicken BBQ
The Rotary Club of Plymouth is seeking volunteers to assist with the Annual Rotary Chicken BBQ to be held in Kellogg Park on Sunday, September 11, 2022. A volunteer corp of 600-700 individuals supports local Rotarians in making the BBQ, now in its 66th year, a success.
“The BBQ has a tradition that includes local high school sports teams, academic clubs and other organizations in day-of activities as well as set-up and take down,” said Rotarian Gary Stolz. “We often have adults come by the BBQ recalling their times in high school when they volunteered along side team or club mates. For many, volunteering is a rite of passage, a community tradition.” Volunteers provide assistance in setting up the BBQ pits, folding boxes, husking corn, and packaging the dinners.
Representatives for high school teams and clubs should contact the BBQ’s Volunteer Coordinator immediately to ensure their spot on the volunteer roster. Teams and clubs receive a cash contribution to their organization in exchange for the volunteer hours. Each volunteer receives a BBQ T-shirt and a complimentary BBQ chicken dinner. “We have people asking if they can buy a BBQ T-shirt,” reported Stolz. “Being a volunteer is the only way to get one.” Student volunteer hours also qualify for philanthropic service hours.
In addition to team and club members, the general public can also volunteer.
